The Beaumont Winery is a family run vineyard situated in the quaint village of Bot River in the Walker Bay area of the south west Cape of South Africa. Jayne and Raoul Beaumont bought the farm Compagnes Drift in 1974 and set about replanting the vineyards. However, the legacy of creating wines in the farm cellar under the family name was only initiated some years later. Since then the wines have born the crest of the Beaumont family. Originally found in the family signet ring, the roaring lion represents honour and courage and serves as a symbolic message of balance – a quality synonymous with their wines. The crest pays homage to their roots and represents the connection between farmland and family. Jayne and Raoul’s son, Sebastian Beaumont, is the present winemaker at the farm. We always love visiting the Beaumont family on their delightful wine farm staying in an old converted cowshed, swimming in the picturesque dam and enjoying the walking trails and wild flowers of the Estate, as well as tasting some fantastic wines. Sebastian Beaumont, the Viticulturist and winemaker, specialises in old vine Chenin Blanc, Mourvedre, Shiraz, Pinotage, a Bordeaux blend and even some “port” style wines.

Chenin Blanc 2022

Chenin Blanc 2020

Picked early to preserve freshness, which also results in low alcohol. A very slow and cool fermentation separately with different yeast strains for more complexity and then blended after fermentation. After maturation on the lees for 6 months it was fined, filtered and bottled. Very punchy aromatics filled with loads of tropical fruit, citrus and fennel. Fruit driven palate with a sweet sour tang and great balance.

Grapes: Chenin Blanc    Alcohol: 13%

Hope Marguerite 2021

A careful selection of the most characterful fruit from the oldest vineyards at Beaumont, left to ferment naturally with minimum intervention, matured in mostly old 400L French oak. This is a great food wine that promises ageing ability. The wine has a fresh green glint, with dried apricot, green melon and a delicate cinnamon spice on the nose. It displays hints of ripe green apple, dried apricot and almond on mid-palate. Well-integrated oak with limey freshness and a lingering rich finish. Matches brilliantly with seafood especially scallops and any beautifully spicy Asian dishes.

This wine consistently wins awards, with Platters awarding 5 stars for ten out of the last twelve vintages.

Grapes: Chenin Blanc    Alcohol: 12.86

Constable House Red 2018

Beaumont Constable House Red 2018 from Newton Wines

The Beaumont Constable House blend consists of the two varietals that work exceptionally well together namely Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. In this vintage Beaumont have added a small amount of Tinta Barocca and Petit Verdot. Lots of bramble and plum fruit combine with spice flavours and mellow tannins to make this a lovely alround wine.

Grapes: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tinta Barocca and Petit Verdot    Alcohol: 13.5

Beaumont Jackals River Pinotage 2018/2019

A consistent 4 star winner in Platter. The Beaumont Pinotage has been beautifully crafted with 24 months in 25% American and 75% French oak. 35% new oak was selected for the final wine. 80% of the fruit comes from our 48 year old vines providing dryness and structure while the younger portion provides lovely vibrant fruit. This is the perfect example of elegance and finesse which can be found in Pinotage. Red berries, plums and cherries on the nose, followed by a palate of excellent balance, structure and appealing sweet berry ripeness. As the wine ages autumn flavours become more apparent. It will keep for up to 10 years.

Jancis Robinson wrote that the 2011 vintage was one of the best Pinotages she had ever tasted. In 2022, Decanter Magazine listed the 2019 vintageas one of the best South African Pinotages.

Beaumont Dangerfield Syrah 2019

Beaumont Dangerfield Syrah 2019

This Syrah gets its name from a character in one of Raoul Beaumont’s favourite novels The Ginger Man written by JP Donleavy. When Sebastian was born Jayne and Raoul tried to use it as a middle name for him. Unfortunately the grandparents revolted and vetoed the decision. Finally a wine has received the honour. The 2019 vintage is purple in colour. It has spicy fruit and pepper on the nose and flavours of berry fruit with fine ripe tannins on the finish make this a full but elegant wine. The wine has 20 months in barrel - 100% French oak and 25% of total in new barrels. Potential to age for 8 to 10 years.

2019 Received 92 points in Tim Atkin review. 93 Points in Platter wine guide.

Grapes: Syrah    Alcohol: 13.03

Beaumont Far Side Mourvèdre 2018

Beaumont produced and bottled the first single varietal Mourvedre in South Africa in 1999 and since then they have produced limited amounts of this fascinating grape every year. I import small quantities of the Beaumont Mourvèdre as I think this is a little bit quirky and of exceptional quality. Not everyones taste but certainly mine! A stunning full-bodied red. A combination of rich red berries and dense inky black berry fruit, with under tones of liquorice and leather. Delicate spices including thyme, clove, cinnamon and black pepper with a characteristic core of tannin running through, creating togetherness and serious length.

Grapes: Mourvèdre    Alcohol: 14.5

Beaumont New Baby 2015/2016/2017

Beaumont New Baby available from Newton Wines

A blend created from our 5 white varietals, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay and Colombar. Resulting in a fascinating barrel matured white blend. Lots of peach and apricot fruit with a touch of citrus, beautifully poised and a long creamy finish. A keeper if you can get your hands on it! Small amount of the 5 star platters 2015 vintage left! I love this wine so much that I consistently import smasll quantities. Available to buy three or four different vintages!

Grapes: 45% Chenin Blanc, 26% Sauv Blanc, 15% Semillon, 8% Colombar, 6%Chardonnay.    Alcohol: 12.81

Vitruvian 2009 / 2011 / 2014

Beaumont’s flagship red blend gets its name from the 200 year old working watermill which is still part of the farm. This is an unapologetically Beaumont blend based on Mourvedre, Pinotage, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. A very powerful wine with hints of black fruit, chocolate, vanilla and spices. The taste is complex and full which will match well with hearty Italian dishes.

Grapes: 38% Mourvèdre, 25% Syrah, 18% Pinotage, 8% Petit Verdot, 8%% Cab Franc, 2% Malbec    Alcohol: 13.74%

Beaumont Ariane 2015

Beaumont Ariane 2015 available from Newton Wines

A not so classic “Bordeaux” blend Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot with the remainder being Merlot. The 2015 has a rich deep colour with herbs, blackcurrant leaf, fruit and chocolate aromas gives way to a palate that is rich in berry fruit and spice, yet kept in balance by soft ripe tannins and judicious use of oak. This is drinking wonderfully now but as with all Beaumont reds can be left to cellar for anything up to 12 years.

Grapes: 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Petit Verdot, 26% Merlot    Alcohol: 14.3%

The Beaumont Cape Vintage 2016 and 2017 ( quality p...t all but in name!!)

The Beaumont Fortified Port-style wine was made in true Beaumont fashion…stomped by foot! A blend of Tinta Barocca and Pinotage.

Intense crushing of the skins resulted in aromas of cinnamon, blueberry and blackberry combined with a focused tannin structure. Unfiltered and unfined as per the ‘traditional’ style, with minimal sulphur use.

Made in very small quantities so grab it while its here!

Grapes: Tinta Barocca, Pinotage    Alcohol: 17.5%

Beaumont Goutte D'Or 2021

Beaumont Goutte D'Or 2021

Beaumont’s “drop of gold”, this wine is only available in best years when conditions allow. I was lucky enough to import some before it all went!

Produced from natural Botrytis Chenin Blanc grapes in our signature style that is elegant, fresh and very well balanced between sweetness and acidity. As a Chenin Blanc specialist, this style of sweet wine is an essential part of the Beaumont wine range.
